Compositions of Photography: Horizontal Line

Horizontal Line

The composition of a horizontal line in a shot is commonly stable, dependable and conservative.

This photo demonstrates the idea of a horizontal line composition. From the top to bottom, all of the colours and parts (except for the tiny buoy) are horizontal lines. The colours are contrasting, which make the lines stand out even more, with the purples, pinks, oranges and the yellow in the middle, before fading back to the orange, purple, pink and eventually black. The lines are accentuated by the colours and give the viewer things to focus on throughout the whole shot, as there is no real focus as the buoy, the only thing to distract from the lines, is too small, too far back and unfocused enough to be the center focal point in the shot.
