Central Placement
When positioned in a central placement, the subject of the photo is the single focal point. There is nothing to draw the viewer's eye away and the subject is making a statement.
This shot by Adam Paine is an example of central placement. The subject being the surfer and his board are in the center of the photo, and the contrasting sun behind them making the silhouette stand out even more. The clouds, sand, water and horizon all fade to the viewers background as the central placement of the subject draws the viewer's eye directly to the middle, and everything else is detailed yet subtle enough to support the main subject without overpowering it, instead the horizontal lines compliment the subject's figure as it stands out in contrast to the lines.
